Data Blocks FAQ
1. What are Data Blocks and how do they work?
Data Blocks allow you to continue to use your Internet service at full speeds after you have reached your data limit.
Once purchasing a Data Block your service will be unshaped until you have reached the Data Block limit. Once the Data Block limit has been reached your speed will then be slowed down to your allocated shaped speed.
Data Blocks can be purchased before or after you have been shaped.
2. How much does a Data Block cost?
Data Block pricing may differ from service to service. It is best to check the latest pricing on the product page by clicking on 'Data Blocks'.
3. How do I purchase Data Blocks?
You can purchase Data Blocks in the My Account section of our website. Once logged in, click on 'Check My Internet Usage' under the Quick Menu. Then click on 'Buy Data Blocks'.
4. When am I billed for Data Blocks?
Data Blocks are billed in arrears based on your billing cycle.
5. What are Peak and Offpeak Data Blocks?
If your plan is split into peak and offpeak data, you may purchase Data Blocks in either period individually.
For instance:
- If you are shaped in the Peak period and the Offpeak period and you wish to download at full speed in Peak time, you can purchase a block for Peak only.
6. What happens if my connection is already Shaped?
If your Internet connection is Shaped, once you purchase a Data Block the system with automatically un-shape you until you reach the Data Block limit (to which it will then re-shape you).
7. Do Data Blocks include any exceeded traffic while I was shaped or are they additional?
Data Blocks are simply added to your total data quota. If you have already exceeded your data limit before you have purchased a Data Block, you will lose the exceeded amount.
For instance:
- You have a 5GB limit, you are shaped at 5GB and continue to download at your shaped speed until 5.1GB. You then purchase a Data Block of 2GB. You will then have 1.9GB worth of data at full speed.
8. Is it possible to automatically renew my Data Block every month?
No. Data Blocks are purchased when you need them. If you find you are consistently purchasing data blocks at the end of the month, you may want to upgrade your plan.
9. How long does it take for the Data Block to come online?
Data Blocks can take up to 30 minutes to come into effect. If there is no change after 30 minutes, you should disconnect the power to your modem, leave it off for 15 seconds and plug it back in. If this does not work, you should contact our technical support team to investigate.
10. Do Data Blocks roll over to the next billing cycle?
No. Data Blocks expire at the end of the current billing cycle.
